Welcome back to the 2017-2018 school year!
Handbook forms are due Friday, August 25th, as well as the initial deposit for our New York Trip. More information about the New York trip can be found under the "Resources" tab. Please make checks payable to AdvantEdge Tours.
Also, please plan on joining us for our Performing Arts BBQ on Friday, the 25th at 6:00pm in the auditorium courtyard. Not only is this a fun way to start the school year together, but afterward we will have a short informational meeting in the auditorium.
Here's to a great school year!
The end of our 2016-2017 school year is nearly upon us, and we have some exciting upcoming performances to wrap up the year!
On Friday, May 5th, Conchords will be performing at the Avalon Theater with Morgan Crouse (a local country artist) at 7:00pm. Our a cappella group was sought out by the man coordinating this event, so we are excited to be the group being featured with Morgan. Proceeds from this event will be split between Base Camp 40 (a charity organization for retired veterans) and our choral department! Please spread the word and come support the students in this ensemble! We've been preparing for this performance since January, so we hope to sing for a full house.
Finally, on Tuesday, May 9th, we celebrate the end of the year with our Pops/Awards Concert at 7:00pm in the GJHS auditorium. This concert will feature the music of Queen and Michael Jackson. It's also the event where we recognize students receiving choral awards and honor our graduating seniors. I hope you can join us for one or both of these year-end concerts!
Spring is here! The choirs are embarking on a busy time of year, so here is a list of upcoming performances for your convenience:
Advanced Women's Ensemble - Tuesday, April 4th at 7:00pm - We will be performing at CMU's Choral Showcase, which features a top ensemble from each of the valley's four high schools as well as one of CMU's own ensembles. The concert begins at 7:00pm and takes place in the recital hall, located in the music building on CMU's campus. There is a small ticket price for friends and family wishing to view the concert ($5 students/$10 adults). Seating will be limited.
All Choirs - Tuesday, April 11th at 7:00pm - Our pre-festival concert will take place in the GJHS auditorium, starting at 7:00pm, and ending no later than 8:30pm. All choral ensembles will be performing.
Westwinds - Friday, April 14th at 7:00pm - We are excited to collaborate with the GJHS jazz bands this year to offer an evening of jazz at Ella's Blues Room, located at 336 Main Street. We've been given the opportunity to perform in this public venue for free, so we hope you'll come support our jazz musicians as well as this fun, New Orleans-style restaurant on Friday the 14th. Westwinds and 5th Hour Jazz have a swingin' closer in store for you!
Men's Choir - Tuesday, April 18th at 7:00pm - Men's choir will be singing as the high school exposition group at East Middle School's pre-festival concert, which takes place in the GJHS auditorium. The men are sounding fantastic, and we're hopeful that our performance will encourage these younger students to keep singing when they get to high school.
All Choirs - Friday, April 21st - Colorado West Festival takes place at CMU every year. I'm very excited to see how our ensembles do in competition this year. Performance times are:
Women's Choir - 8:00am - CMU Ballroom
Men's Choir - 9:00am - CMU Ballroom
Advanced Women's Ensemble - 10:00am - Recital Hall
Mixed Choir - 11:45am - Recital Hall
Chamber Choir - 3:00pm - CMU Ballroom
Westwinds performs with the jazz choirs a day later, on Saturday April 22nd at 10:30am in the Recital Hall. They'll also perform on Saturday at 3:30pm in Central High School's auditorium with 5th Hour Jazz.
Keep in the loop as May rolls around! Amidst other concerts, Conchords will be performing at the Avalon Theater with local country artist, Morgan Crouse. More on that to come!
